Common questions
- How long do I have to appeal a parking ticket?
- For a council PCN you have 28 days from service to pay or challenge, with a 50% discount for the first 14 days (21 for postal camera PCNs). For a private parking charge you have 28 days to appeal to the operator and 14 days for the discounted rate.
- Does challenging stop the clock on the discount?
- For a council PCN challenged within the discount period, the council normally re-offers the discount for 14 days if it rejects you. British Parking Association operators must do the same for private charges; International Parking Community operators generally do not.
- What happens if I miss the 28 days?
- A council PCN moves to a Notice to Owner, then a Charge Certificate adding 50%, then registration at the Traffic Enforcement Centre. A TE9 witness statement can reset the process if you never received the notices.
